May Hong
May Hong is a Vietnamese tea restaurant in the heart of the lively Galerie d'Olympiades, a busy center for Asian goods, serving superb pho soups. Its large bay windows look out onto the esplanade and provide a pleasant and quiet ambiance even in the winter. The menu is limited to a few well-executed conventional dishes: papaya salad, spring rolls, banh cuon, and banh beo tom (€6 to €7.50), rice and pork main courses (€7 to €10), and traditional soups (the famous chicken or beef pho, perhaps the best in Paris).
The 'délice' of longan (a near relative of the lychee) and lotus seeds, priced at €3.90, was an unusual and not disagreeable combination of textures and flavors. The salted lemon juice drink is another fantastic find. To summarize, great classic cooking in a relaxed setting with no frills.
