May reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels
Some dandelion components may lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels, both of which are major risk factors for heart disease. Dandelion leaf and root extract reduced triglyceride buildup in fat cells in one test-tube research. Similarly, 4-week animal research found that giving rats dandelion leaf extract dramatically lowered total cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Furthermore, an earlier rabbit study found that including dandelion roots and leaves in a high cholesterol diet reduced cholesterol levels.
Some of the chemicals present in dandelions may also aid in cholesterol reduction. According to one research, the dandelion extract significantly lowered cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Another study discovered that adding dandelion roots and leaves to high-cholesterol diets decreased cholesterol levels.
