McGill University

McGill University is a public, English-language research university in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The university bears the name of James McGill, a Scottish merchant whose bequest in 1813 formed the university's precursor, University of McGill College; the name was officially changed to McGill University in 1885 by a royal charter granted by King George IV.


With over 30% of its student body made up of international students, the majority of enrolled applicants are studying in the departments of medicine, engineering, arts, science, and management. McGill University has produced notable alumni such as Oscar-winner William Shatner, search engine inventor Alan Emptage, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
