University of British Columbia (UBC)
The University of British Columbia is a public research university in British Columbia, Canada. The university was founded in 1908 and first opened its doors in 1915. It has two main campuses: one in Vancouver and one in Kelowna called the Okanagan campus. The Vancouver campus is the larger of the two, housing more than 85% of UBC students. In a recent year, approximately 23% of students on the Vancouver campus and around 13% on the Okanagan campus were international. Tuition at UBC varies according to a degree program and is higher for international students. University housing is guaranteed for first-year UBC undergraduates, and newly admitted international students in their second year are given housing preference as well.
This top Canadian university manages several research centers, including a 59-acre farm for food research, a center for democratic practices research, and indigenous education, in addition to all of the research equipment on campus. UBC collaborates with over 200 universities around the world due to its research prowess, including UC Berkeley, Seoul National University, Imperial College London, and many others. UBC students can study abroad for a semester or a year at over 200 partner institutions such as ETH Zürich, University of Tokyo, UC Berkeley, Imperial College London, HEC Paris, Tsinghua University, University of Washington, Seoul National University, University of Sydney, IIT Delhi and many others.
