Mean Streets (1973)
Martin Scorsese and Mardik Martin co-wrote Mean Streets, a 1973 American crime film directed by Scorsese. Warner Bros. published it on October 2, 1973. The film gives a look into the lives of lower-level Mafiosos, unbalanced punks, and small crooks in Little Italy. A small-time hood finds himself in a pickle with a ruthless loan shark. In order to escape the hazards of his debt, he enumerates the assistance of a friend who is also involved in illegal activity.
For his role as "Johnny Boy" Civello, De Niro earned the National Society of Film Critics award for Best Supporting Actor. Mean Streets was chosen by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1997 as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important".
