The Irishman (2019)

The Irishman (titled onscreen as I Heard You Paint Houses) is a 2019 American epic crime drama film. The film is one of Robert De Niro's greatest collaborations is with Martin Scorsese. Over the course of decades, the film follows its main character, a half-Irish criminal who becomes immersed in the mafia and one of Jimmy Hoffa's closest associates. Whereas all of Scorsese's early gangster films are intended to be entertaining, The Irishman is about living a life that alienates everyone. The Irishman does not end in a spray of gunfire. It ends with an elderly man alone, having alienated everyone he has ever known or loved as a result of the life he has chosen.

Scorsese's direction, as well as De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci's performances, received widespread critical acclaim. At the 92nd Academy Awards, the film received 10 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor for Pacino and Pesci, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
