Mercenary (2016)
Sacha Wolff directed the 2016 French drama film Mercenary. It premiered at the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Europa Cinemas Label Award. A young guy from New Caledonia, a French overseas collectivity in the South Pacific, plays rugby in France.
Soane, a 19-year-old male with a stocky physique who is suitable for a prop forward Rugby position, is the protagonist of 'Mercenary.' Soane is picked up from a Polynesian village and invited to join a mainland French rugby squad, which he accepts hesitantly. His father, Leone, disagrees to this choice and then declares that his son has died before chasing him out. When Soane arrives in France and is judged unfit for whatever reason, he resorts to doping, works as a bouncer, and has a good time. The film's central theme is Soane's acceptance of his new identity in the midst of chaos.
