In order to offer the expanding Latino community in Boston and the general public a new approach in the restaurant business, Merengue Restaurant first opened its doors in 1994. Your soul is permeated by merengue music and art, leaving a deep imprint that captures the flavor of Dominican cuisine. All of this is brought to life in each and every one of our dishes, always infused with the flavor of our town and the friendliness of our people, in a comfortable setting and with individualized service.

For twenty-five years, this restaurant has served Dominican cuisine on Blue Hill Avenue. Along with several dishes typical of Mediterranean cuisine and others that the Arabs had passed down to the Spaniards during their 500-year rule of the Iberian Peninsula, numerous new kinds of animals, vegetables, fruits, and cereals were also introduced. Several iced daiquiris (get the passionfruit), as well as a selection of margaritas and mojitos, may be found on Merengue's superb cocktail menu. Must-order dishes include the filled shrimp tostones, grilled steak with peppers and onions, and grilled chicken with chimichurri sauce. The mofongo is also among the greatest in the city.
