Miele
Miele is one of the leading German manufacturers of high-end commercial and home appliances. Miele is headquartered in Gütersloh, Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The company was founded in 1899 by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann, and it has always been a family owned and operated company.
Miele's first products were cream separators, egg beaters and drum washers, under the Meteor brand. Carl Miele personally oversaw the production, while Reinhard Zinkann apprenticed and handled finance and sales.
In 1927, Miele began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. In 1929, the first electric dishwasher in Europe was produced. Since 1930, motorcycles have been built. In 1932, Miele was the largest centrifuge in Europe. During World War II, Miele produced the torpedo control units of the German Kriegsmarine.
Miele exports its products to the global market and is present in 47 countries. Their US expansion took place in 1983, when they established corporate headquarters in Somerset, New Jersey. In 1999, they moved to new headquarters in Princeton, designed by Driehaus Prize winner Michael Graves.
