Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, established in 1963, is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the Dar es Salaam metropolitan (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is a modest (enrollment range: 2,000-2,999 students) coeducational Tanzanian higher education institution that is officially accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities.
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, Traditional Medicine, Laboratory, and Allied Sciences. The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences places a strong emphasis on research as part of its mission. Over 40 important research projects are underway at the university. They range from "vitamin trials among the children of HIV-infected women" to "health insurance in developing countries," and from "social and contextual predictors of male heterosexual risk behavior in Africa" to "the effect of multivitamin supplements on clinical and immunological response in childhood tuberculosis." The European Union and a number of European and American universities are among the research partners.
