Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) is a public research institute in Arusha, Tanzania. The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in Arusha (NM-AIST Arusha) is part of a pan-African network of science and technology institutes spread across Africa. The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has approved the NM-AIST Arusha as a research-intensive institution for postgraduate and postdoctoral study and research in Science Engineering and Technology (SET). However, SET training includes significant amounts of important humanities and business studies components.


Because of the region's biodiversity, life sciences and bioengineering are being fostered as one of the NM-AIST Arusha's specialized areas. The institution aims to stimulate, catalyze, and promote agricultural production intensification as well as value addition to various natural goods (agricultural, mineral, and so on) produced in Tanzania and the Eastern African region. Energy, ICT, Mining, Environment, and Water are some other major topic areas that NM AIST-Arusha will cover.
