University of Dar es Salaam
The University of Dar es Salaam, established in 1970, is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the city of Dar es Salaam (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Iringa is home to a branch campus of this university. The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is a big (enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational Tanzanian higher education institution that is officially accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities.

The institution was ranked 2965th of the best university in the world (out of 9,803 universities) in 2013, but it was the best of the 16 ranked in Tanzania, with the Sokoine University of Agriculture coming in second. Today, this university still holds the highest ranking among the best universities in Tanzania
