Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University
Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University is a public university in Meiktila, Myanmar, that specializes in aerospace engineering. In several aeronautical engineering specialities and technologies, the institution provides undergraduate diplomas, bachelor's degrees, and post-graduate diploma programs.
Prior to the establishment of MAEU in 2002, Yangon Technological University was Myanmar's only institution that offered aeronautical engineering programs. In 1991, YTU launched an Aeronautical Engineering bachelor's degree program, which was upgraded to Aerospace Engineering in 1997, ostensibly to "research space technology and application." In Meiktila, site of the Myanmar Air Force's central command, the military government founded a specialist institution for aeronautical engineering in 2002, perhaps with Russian and Chinese technological support.
Twenty troops attacked the MAEU campus on February 14, 2020, in the aftermath of the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état, in reference to the campus faculty and student body's participation in the current civil disobedience movement.
