National Museum of Iceland
The National Museum of Iceland ranks 8th in the list of best places to visit in Reykjavik. No trip to a great city is complete without learning about its history in its primary museum, and Reykjavik is no different. The National Museum of Iceland, with over 3,000 items on three floors, explains the history of the island, from early settlements dating back to the Middle Ages to the current day.
The Iceland Museum includes a permanent exhibition called "The Making of a Nation" that exhibits the country's legacy and history, beginning with the Age of Settlement in the second part of the ninth century and ending with the twentieth century, which is represented by a 1,000-photo exhibit. The exhibition is set up as a time travel, beginning with a ship used by early settlers to migrate to Iceland and ending with photos of the city's current airport. The Icelandic National Museum is within walking distance of the city center in Reykjavik. It's on Suurgata Street, near Reykjavik University, between the Midborg and Vesturbaer neighborhoods. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday through Sunday.
