Reykjavík Maritime Museum

The Reykjavik Maritime Museum, originally Vkin Maritime Museum, is a maritime museum administered by Reykjavik City, located near the ancient harbor in Iceland's capital, Reykjavik. The museum opened in 2005 and is presently one of Reykjavik City Museum's five locations. With so much of Reykjavik's past based on the marine industry, a visit to the Reykjavik Maritime Museum helps to put much of the city's current culture into the context.

The museum has seven installations that cover Icelandic marine history from the early settlements until the late twentieth century. The Coast Guard and rescue vessel inn is an essential component of the museum. The ship was converted into a museum display depicting the 1950s and 1970s cod warfare in 2008. The ship also conveys the story of its own past. The museum's primary focus is the history of fishing in Iceland, although it also hosts temporary exhibitions about the sea.
