National Tsing Hua University
Ranking the fifth in our list of the best universities in Taiwan is the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU). The institution, founded in 1911 in the Chinese capital of Beijing, was transferred to Hsinchu City in Taiwan in 1956, following the fall of the Kuomintang-led government against the Communist Party in the Chinese Civil War.
Today, NTHU provides a diverse range of programs in science, technology, engineering, humanities, social sciences, and management. It consists of seven colleges, seventeen departments, and twenty-two autonomous graduate institutions.
Most students must pass the Joint College Entrance Exam in order to be admitted to NTHU's undergraduate programs. Others may be admitted through other programs or schemes, and international students are chosen by the Ministry of Education. Foreign students having a high school diploma may apply to the Office of Global Affairs for baccalaureate programs.
Students holding an undergraduate or baccalaureate degree must still pass an admission exam to pursue a master's degree. Outstanding students may be admitted immediately through a unique and challenging selection process. The same is true for individuals intending to pursue a doctorate. At the moment, NTHU offers 31 doctoral degree programs.
At the university, there are 150 student-run groups in a variety of areas. Student Associations, Crafts and Skills, Music and Entertainment, Service, Art, Sport, General, and Functional Teams are examples of these. A gym, swimming pool, ball courts, and track and field are among the excellent facilities. Since 1969, the university has participated in the Meichu Games, in which students compete against their neighboring competitor, National Chiao Tung University.
There are 21 dormitories on campus, with a total capacity of 6,000 students. Many of the university's 600 faculty members reside on campus, creating an integrated community where students and teachers can connect outside of the lecture theatre.
