Nauyaca Waterfalls
Talking about the most beautiful waterfalls in Costa Rica, Nauyaca Waterfall is not to be missed. Just 20 minutes from Dominical, in Costa Ballena's South Pacific zone, are the breathtaking Nauyaca Waterfalls. Nauyaca is distinctive in its structure; it is divided into upper and lower cascades; water flows over the cliffside to fall over 140 feet before the following 60-foot drop; despite having less spectacular drop-offs than the imposing La Fortuna or Bajos del Toro waterfalls. This waterfall's setting is among its most beautiful features. The journey there could be a little challenging, but the views are well worth it! It's hidden away in the dense rainforest. There are several ways for visitors to get to the falls, including horseback riding, hiking, and 4x4. The same well-maintained trail is used by both horseback riders and hikers, who keep a look out for the plentiful wildlife in the region, including monkeys or birds. A variety of hummingbird species love to live here. A short 2.5-mile hike that is manageable for kids, the track leads to the waterfall.
The trail divides in two as you reach the waterfall itself, taking you to either the higher or lower falls. Impressive upper falls that fall a larger distance. After the climb, the waterfall's sporadic mist feels soothing, and there are several slick river rocks that are the ideal spots for your picnic lunch! At the upper falls, the scenery is exquisite and the atmosphere is generally calmer. But the real excitement is in the lower falls! There are facilities where visitors can change into swimsuits just before the stairs leading down to the falls. A sizable body of crystal-clear blue water is collected by the cascade in the swimming hole. The greatest way to cool off after a trek is to go swimming. Everyone has plenty of area to swim, unwind, or explore, and occasionally a courageous local may jump off one of the cliffs for amusement. The Nauyaca Waterfall is a must-see for breathtaking photo opportunities and a fantastic hike and swim combo!
