Northwestern University
Northwestern University is an Evanston, Illinois-based private research university. Northwestern University, founded in 1851, is the state's oldest chartered university and one of the world's most prestigious academic institutions.
Students seeking an intimate academic community may find it at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy (SESP), the university's smallest department. There are only about 300 graduate students and about 20 faculty members. Students can earn a master of arts, a master of science, or a doctorate with one of five degree options. NU-TEACH, an accelerated program, places students in their own, supervised classrooms after a single summer of coursework. Following a successful first year, NU-TEACH students must commit to teaching in Chicago public schools for at least four more years.
