University of California, Los Angeles
The University of California, Los Angeles is a land-grant research university located in Los Angeles, California. UCLA's academic roots can be traced back to 1882 when it was founded as the southern branch of the California State Normal School (now San José State University). This school was absorbed with the official founding of UCLA in 1919 as the Southern Branch of the University of California, making it the second-oldest of the University of California system's ten campuses (after UC Berkeley).
UCLA has 337 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a variety of fields. The school is one of the country's Public Ivies and is consistently ranked among the best universities in the United States by major college and university rankings. As of October 2021, UCLA had 27 Nobel laureates, five Turing Award winners, two Chief Scientists of the United States Air Force, and one Fields Medalist on its faculty, researchers, or alumni.
