Qaruh Island
Qaruh Island is a Kuwaiti island named because the significant amount of petroleum deposits found in the vicinity (known as Qar in Arabic). It is the one that is farthest from Kuwait's mainland. It's 37.5 kilometers east of the mainland and 17 kilometers northeast of Umm al Maradim. The island is approximately 275 meters long and 175 meters wide at its widest point (an area of around 3.5 hectares). On January 21, 1991, the island was also the first chunk of Kuwaiti soil to be reclaimed from Iraq during the Gulf War.
