Ramazan

The most important religious celebration is Ramadan (Ramazan in Turkish), the Muslim month of fasting from water, food, tobacco, and sexual contact. Other than that, life goes on as usual throughout Ramadan, with most people fasting from sunrise until sunset. Some restaurants close for the duration or severely limit their menus, while others conceal their salons discreetly behind window coverings, but at the majority of the establishments, you will be treated with shockingly excellent grace. This is one of Turkey's most popular events.
