Raysko Praskalo Waterfall
Raysko Praskalo ("Heavenly Sprinkler"), at 124.5 meters in height, is Bulgaria's and the Balkan Peninsula's highest and the most magnificent waterfall. It is located under Botev Peak (2,376 m) in the Balkan Mountains' central region and is part of the Dzhendema Reserve of the Central Balkan National Park. Kalofer, 11 kilometers to the south, is the nearest town. The waterfall collects water from Botev Peak's snow drifts and flows into the Praskalska River, a tributary of the Byala Reka River. During the summer, the flow of fall is at its greatest. The 120-bed Ray mountain retreat is located in the foothills of Raysko Praskalo and serves as the starting point for tourist treks to the waterfall.
It is situated within the Dzhendema (Hell) Reserve, which is the biggest in the Central Balkan National Park. It is one of the largest and most inaccessible reserves in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula, and it is part of the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Program. Raysko Praskalo should be visited in the spring or fall to see it in its full size. If you visit during the summer, you may be disappointed by the limited amount of water that flows down from the massive cliffs.
