Skaklya Waterfall

It is a 141 m high intermittent waterfall in Bulgaria. It lies 1.5 kilometers south of Vratsa, behind the Kaleto hill. In the surrounding region, ruins of the medieval Bulgarian hamlet of Patleina have been discovered. Beautiful in all seasons, with views of Vratsa city and Vratsa field from the highest section. Several tourist routes intersect here. Skaklya Waterfall is part of the 1467-hectare Vratsa Karst Reserve. Skaklya, the name of the waterfall, is veiled in folklore. The villagers tell a magnificent narrative of how, during the end of Ottoman slavery, the Turkish army crossed the Balkans and slept for the night under the waterfall. The Turkish pasha (Ottoman general) heading the army was astounded by this unbelievable beauty in the morning, when the golden rays of the sun lit the beautiful rivers falling from the steep cliffs.


The reserve is supervised by the Regional Environment and Water Inspection - Vratsa. Skaklya Waterfall is not open all year, thus the ideal time to come is in the spring or after a strong rain. You can see it from town or walk to the summit to enjoy the amazing views. by car or on foot to the area above the hospital in Vratsa, where you can reach the waterfall's base in one hour.
