Sandhammaren Beach

Sandhammaren beach is known for having some of the greatest white sands in Skne, if not all of Sweden. The beach here, which is located at Sweden's farthest southerly point, is unsurprisingly wild. The backdrop here is an expanse of low sand dunes shaped by the wind flowing off the Baltic Sea, with very little evidence of human activity. In fact, behind the beach, in the pine forests, there is a nature reserve where you may view a variety of flora and fauna, including the occasional elk. This stretch of the Swedish coast is particularly dangerous, with strong currents. Not only does this mean that swimming should be done with caution, but the area is also known for shipwrecks.

The shifting sands and surging tides off Sandhammaren claimed several ships before a lighthouse was built in the 1860s. In addition, the shore is home to Sweden's first lifeboat station, which was established in 1892. During the summer, you can visit the lighthouse and enjoy the spectacular views from the top.

Sandhammaren is one of Skne's most popular beaches, despite its isolated position and wilderness vibe. During the summer, it will get crowded, but there is plenty of room to spread out. Parking can be difficult, but if you drive along the coast, you should be able to find a spot. A naturist-friendly area is located just north of the main beach in Hagestad.
