Select from Denmark is one of the world's leading ball manufacturers. It was founded in 1947 by former goalkeeper Eigil Nielsen, who played for the Danish national team. Select was the first ball brand to produce slip-on soccer balls and brought many innovations that followed.

In the early 1970s, a Danish entrepreneur and his brand introduced the first 32-panel soccer ball (commonly known as the Buckminster ball), which consisted of 20 white hexagons and 12 black pentagons. This design quickly became popular and became a football standard. In 1974, Select decided to abandon cowhide as its first hand-stitched synthetic leather ball.
