Sinterklaas Parade

The Amsterdam Sinterklaas Parade celebrates Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children and an important Dutch figure. This popular festival usually runs from mid-November to early December and features a colorful parade through Amsterdam.


Sinterklaas, along with his assistants (Zwarte Pieten), begin the event with a steam train along the Amstel River, disembarking at the Maritime Museum. He made his way to Dam Square, where spectators gathered for a vibrant celebration with acrobatic performances, live bands, and spiced biscuits delivered by Zwarte Pieten. The famous festival Sinterklaas Parade is especially popular with children, as they receive gifts from Sinterklaas on the last day.
