SNOW SUMMIT
In the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, Snow Summit is a ski area that opened its doors in 1952. Together with its sister resort Bear Mountain, it is situated by Big Bear Lake, and the two resorts are generally referred to as Big Bear Mountain Resorts.
With blue runs covering nearly half the mountain, intermediate skiers will benefit the most from Snow Summit, but expert skiers won't be bored either. Drop in if you dare-you'll find a couple of double-black-diamond chutes off the wide groomed pistes! Despite being much smaller than its sister resort Bear Mountain, you can ski both with one ticket, which is fortunate. For coffee or a smoked pig belly sandwich inside Hog on the Rocks, an 8,200-foot-high restaurant where you can also take in expansive vistas of the San Bernardino Mountains.
If the surrounding temperature and humidity are agreeable, Snow Summit's vast, multimillion-dollar snowmaking equipment will cover the whole resort's marked terrain with skiable artificial snow for the duration of its winter operating season.
