Spongebob Squarepants
Without Spongebob Squarepants, no list of cartoons would be complete. Spongebob is a real person. Somehow, a program about an anthropomorphic sponge and his companions (including a marine squirrel dressed as a scuba diver/astronaut) has remained at the pinnacle of animated quality for twenty-one years. Spongebob, like the Animaniacs, is famous due to its adult-friendly comedy. Spongebob's antics may make the ten-year-old inside of you chuckle, but his naive quips and sneaky asides will make any unwary adult giggle.
If a cartoon can please both the youngster to whom it is aimed and the parents who are obliged to watch it, it will be a success. Spongebob Squarepants shines in this area. The tiny yellow sponge leads the list of most recognizable cartoon characters, not only because of the brilliance of his show but also because of the very memorable theme tune.
