STEKI Taverna, Newtown
If you walk too far past STEKI Taverna's bright blue walls outside O'Connell Street, you'll almost miss it, but once you're inside, you'll never forget it. One of the most colorful Greek dining experiences you will ever have is at this small but charming Greek taverna in Sydney.
Since its inception in 1983, STEKI, which means 'meeting place' in Greek, has had a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, providing diners with live music and, of course, some of the greatest traditional Greek cuisine. Octopus xidato marinated in vinegar olive oil, capsicum and tomatoes stuffed with sultanas, rice, and pine nuts, and keftedes meatballs served in a rich tomato sauce are among the menu's highlights. Greek and Australian beers, liqueurs, spirits, and, of course, authentic Greek plomari ouzo are all on the menu. STEKI Taverna is the place to go if you want a great dining experience with dancing, live music, and incredibly delicious Greek food.
