Stora Enso

Stora Enso is a manufacturer of pulp, paper, and other forest products with headquarters in Helsinki, Finland. The majority of sales are made in Europe, although considerable operations are also made in Asia and South America. Stora Enso was created in 1998 by the combination of Enso Oyj in Finland and Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags Aktiebolag (STORA) in Sweden. Stora Enso has had several forms and diverse activities, including worldwide expansion, mergers, and acquisitions, all while tackling new business problems, with roots dating back to the 1300s.

Stora Enso was rated seventh in the world in terms of revenue and fourth in terms of profitability among forest, paper, and packaging companies in 2015. For the first two quarters of 2018, the company ranked second in the European forest and paper industry in terms of net earnings. The company's origins may be traced back to the world's oldest known preserved share certificate, issued in 1288. According to some observers, Stora Enso is the world's oldest limited liability firm.

Stora Enso's purpose, "Do good for people and the planet and replace non-renewable materials with renewable products," underpins the company's belief that everything that can be made with fossil-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow, and emphasizes Stora Enso's opportunity to contribute to a greener economy. The company's purpose and principles are emphasized by its ongoing commitment to promoting a more sustainable future, one that is less reliant on fossil fuels and supports a bioeconomy in which product production and consumption are based on wood as a renewable resource.
