A little house in New York City that belongs to a family known as the Littles. Fredrick and Eleanor, both parents and Littles, visit an orphanage in the hopes of finding a sibling for their son, George. But in here, they meet Stuart, a little but adorable mouse who appears to be human-civilized. They adopt him, and everyone adores him, including George. Stuart's existence, however, has one flaw: Snowbell, the Little Family Cat, who wants him. However, when danger arises nearly soon, Stuart must return home before Snowbell's friends know about him.

Columbia Pictures released the film on December 17, 1999. The film was well-received, and it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Stuart Little was the first film in the Stuart Little series, and it was followed by Stuart Little 2 in 2002, the short-lived television series Stuart Little in 2003, and Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild in 2005. Estelle Getty's final film role before retiring in 2001 and passing away in July 2008 was in this film.
