Technical University of Denmark

The Technical University of Denmark was founded in 1829 by H.C. Ørsted, the inventor of electromagnetism, and its graduates were instrumental in the development of Danish engineering. It now promotes itself as one of Europe's leading engineering universities, offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in the discipline.

The university's research focuses on physical sciences like chemistry, biotechnology, and physics, as well as sectors including agriculture, management, transportation, and construction. According to the institution, "usefulness to society, relevance to business, and sustainability" are all priorities.

According to the institution, the "Scandinavian way" pervades how pupils are educated when it comes to studying. There is a "refreshing lack of hierarchy" and rather casualties between academics and students, and students are encouraged to assume responsibility for their projects. Professors are addressed by their first names, as respect in Denmark is earned rather than based on income, job title, or car size. However, do not be late – even a few minutes late is regarded as "quite rude" by the institution.

The main campus of the university is located in Lyngby, about 15 kilometers north of Copenhagen. It was built in the 1960s and 1970s when it needed extra space, and it presently has over 100 structures. Eva and Nils Koppel, a well-known Danish architect duo, designed the campus. Other university outposts can be found in Ballerup, northwest of Copenhagen, and Ris, which is located on one of Denmark's fjords and focuses on sustainable energy solutions.
