The Banks Fish House
On the other side of Harvard Square, Alden & Harlow chef Michael Scelfo debuted Waypoint, his second Cambridge eatery. The menu combines Scelfo's innovative approach with seaside cuisine to create a wide-ranging and welcoming meal. Starters range from exquisite crudo and raw bar to traditional caviar service with contemporary accents (plankton and white corn blini, anyone?). A variety of pizzas, pastas, and prepared meals have seafood components. The highlight of the cocktail menu is absinthe, and the beer and wine menus are full of interesting, hard-to-find selections.
The Banks Fish House, created by Chris Himmel and Chef Robert Sisca, is inspired by the numerous joint fishing expeditions they have taken over the years. This restaurant, which is located on Stuart Street in Back Bay, is dedicated to giving popular regional favorites new life when they occasionally appear stale and overdone. Fish & chips (IPA-battered, locally caught haddock with slaw, fries, and remoulade), the lobster bake (a single-pot combination of chorizo, lobster, clams, mussels, potatoes, and corn), and a flatbread with clam chowder are some of its higher menu offerings (a thin crust topped with creme fraiche, smoked bacon, clams, potatoes and oyster crackers). There is plenty of space to sit down for a full meal or to grab a beverage and chilled items from the raw bar thanks to the restaurant's two floors of open, bright, and tastefully modern nautical decor.
