The City University of New York
The City University of New York (CUNY) is in New York City's public university system. It is the largest urban university system in the United States, with 25 campuses that include eleven senior colleges, seven community colleges, and seven professional schools. While its member colleges stretch back to 1847, CUNY was founded in 1961. The institution has around 275,000 students and alumni including thirteen Nobel Prize winners and twenty-four MacArthur Fellows.
In terms of enrolment, CUNY is the fourth-largest university system in the United States, trailing only the California State University system, the State University of New York (SUNY) system, and the University of California system.
The institution boasts one of the most varied student bodies in the country, with students from all over the world, albeit the majority are from New York City. Black, white, and Hispanic undergraduates each account for more than a quarter of the student body, while Asian undergraduates account for 18 percent.
