The Goonies
The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film co-produced and directed by Richard Donner, based on a plot by executive producer Steven Spielberg and based on a screenplay by Chris Columbus. In the film, youths from Astoria, Oregon's "Goon Docks" area try to save their houses from foreclosure by uncovering an old treasure map that leads them on a quest to recover the long-lost money of One-Eyed Willy, a famous 17th-century pirate. They are pursued by a family of criminals who want the riches for themselves during the expedition.
On a $19 million budget, the film grossed $125 million worldwide and has since become a cult classic. The Library of Congress chose the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2017 because it was "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
