The Princess Bride
Rob Reiner directed and co-produced The Princess Bride, a 1987 American fantasy romance film. It tells the story of a farmhand named Westley, joined by pals encountered along the journey, who must rescue his true love Princess Buttercup from the evil Prince Humperdinck, as adapted by William Goldman from his 1973 novel The Princess Bride. The story is told as a book by a grandpa (Peter Falk) to his ailing grandson, preserving the novel's metafictional storytelling approach (Fred Savage).
After first enjoying relatively modest box office success, it has now become a cult classic and is often regarded as one of the greatest films of 1987. The film is ranked 50th on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies," 88th on The American Cinematic Institute's (AFI) "AFI's 100 Years...100 Passions" list of the 100 best film love tales, and 46th on Channel 4's "50 Greatest Comedy Films" list. The film was considered "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and was entered into the National Film Registry in 2016. In addition, the film received the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 1988.
