The Throne (2015)
The film "The Throne", directed by Lee Joon Ik, remains to be Yoo Ah In's most lucrative venture. The movie starring Yoo Ah In is set during the reign of the twenty-first monarch, Korean King Anh To (Song Kang Ho), who seeks to raise Crown Prince Trang Hien (Yoo Ah In) into a suitable prince who later grew to be a strong king. Despite his efforts to win over his father, he was met with disapproval and degrading treatment. The prince entered the palace to kill his father in a fit of ferocious wrath. He lowered his sword, however, after hearing his kid and his father talking. The crown prince was instructed by the king to be put in a barrel of rice until he passed away. The grandson, who was then the king, acknowledged and respected his father as the crown prince following the grandfather's passing.
The Thronewon three awards at the 35th Korean Film Festival, including Best Picture. It was also selected as the first Korean representative to compete for the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 88th Academy Awards. As for Yoo Ah In, thanks to his excellent performance in this film, he received the Korean Emperor's Award. Quoc at the 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards, becoming the youngest Emperor in Korea. Experts praised Yoo Ah In as an "actor's actor", while the audience did not hesitate to call 2015 the opening year of "Yoo Ah In's era".
