TomTom
TomTom N.V. is a Dutch multinational corporation that specializes in consumer electronics and navigational technologies. TomTom, with its headquarters in Amsterdam, has been in business since 1991, when it introduced its first generation of satellite navigation systems. In 2019, the firm has more than 4,500 employees in 29 locations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Palmtop Software was established in Amsterdam in 1991 by Corinne Vigreux, Peter-Frans Pauwels, and Pieter Geelen.[2][3] Before shifting its attention to the consumer sector and delivering the first route planning software for mobile devices in 1996, the company specialized on software for corporate handheld devices. The firm was a leading software developer for Psion devices in the late 1990s, specializing in software for Psion handheld computers. Palmtop collaborated with Psion on the EPOC32 operating system.[4] The Palm OS and Windows CE platforms also benefited from the software development.
Harold Goddijn, Vigreux's spouse, joined TomTom in 1999 after leaving Psion Netherlands, where Vigreux had worked as sales director and TomTom had developed software. He had TomTom stock from before. TomTom became the brand name and later the legal name of the corporation in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
