The Université Abou Bekr Belkaid de Tlemcen or University of Tlemcen located in Algeria's most northwestern region, is a coeducational public university that received university status in 1989. It was founded in 1974 as the Centre Universitaire de Tlemcen.

The majority of the university's campuses are located in Tlemcen, the capital of the same-named province, which is located 50 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea and is known for its Moorish architecture. Tlemcen, a historic trade city built on the site of the ancient Roman town of Pomaria, is vibrant, welcoming, and home to good food, notable caves, temples, and mosques, as well as spectacular views of the Tlemcen Mountains. The university also has a campus in Maghnia, a smaller town 30 kilometers to the west.

The University of Tlemcen, a modern university with cutting-edge facilities, a large library, and several high-quality labs and computer centers, has been named one of the top 75 universities in the Arab world. Tlemcen has its own international airport, but it is also easily accessible from Algiers, which has more transportation options, including ferries. It is only 65 kilometers from Morocco, but the Algerian-Moroccan border has been closed since 1994.

It has a large student body in general. The vast majority of international students at the university are undergraduates. Although Arabic has been Algeria's official language since its independence in 1962, the institution's language of instruction is French.

The university, like other Algerian institutions, is open from Sunday to Thursday. Weekends are observed in the country from Friday to Saturday.
