  1. In 1969, the University of Constantine 1, formerly known as the University of Mentouri, was founded. The full French name of the university is now Université Frères Mentouri de Constantine 1. Algeria's Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche Scientifique has officially recognized it (Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Algeria). With over 62,864 students and 2,247 administrative and teaching staff, it is a very large university.


    Université Frères Mentouri de Constantine 1 is divided into six faculties: sciences and technologies, letters and languages, natural sciences, law, exact sciences, and earth sciences, as well as an Institute of Nutrition, Food and Agro-Food Technology, and Veterinary Science.


    Constantine University 1 is located in Constantine, Algeria. It is the capital of the Constantine Province in northeastern Algeria, which was known in Roman times as Cirta. It was renamed Constantina in honor of Emperor Constantine the Great. Until 1962, it was the capital of the French department of Constantine.   2. Université Mohamed Boudiaf de M'sila was founded in 1985 as a multidisciplinary public institution and was elevated to the status of university in 2001. It is situated in Algeria's large town of M'sila. It now has over 36,000 students, 1,400 teachers, and 1260 technical and administrative personnel.


    The Université Mohamed Boudiaf has seven faculties: the faculty of technology, the faculty of sciences, the faculty of mathematics and computer science, the faculty of law and political science, the faculty of economics, the faculty of letters and languages, and the faculty of humanities and social sciences.


    There are also two national institutes: the Institute of Urban Techniques Management and the Institute of Science and Technology of Physical and Sports Activities.

  3. The Universite Abderrahmane Mira de Béjaia was founded in 1983 with 205 students and claims to be one of the world's fastest-growing universities. While it took this Algerian institution until 1992 to become a university center, and until 1998 to become a university, it now has over 40,000 students in less than 30 years. The university was named after a native of the Béjaa province who died as a hero of Algeria's independence war in 1959.


    Université Abderrahmane Mira de Béjaia offers classes in French, Arabic, and Tamazaght (also known as Berber), reflecting Algeria's multilingualism. It has been offering Tamazaght courses since 1991, and its students have been among the most dedicated language rights activists.

The University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB), also known as the Université des Sciences et de la Technologie Houari Boumediène in French, was founded in 1974 when the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Algiers relocated to Bab Ezzouar, 15 kilometers east of Algiers and near Algiers International Airport.


    Oscar Niemeyer, a famous Brazilian architect who is regarded as one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century, designed the university on 105 acres. Despite the focus on his projects in Brazil and Europe, he designed 12 buildings for Algeria, the majority of which were completed during his exile following Brazil's military takeover in 1964. The facility's construction began in 1968 and was completed in 1974. Niemeyer's buildings, according to Houari Boumediene, Algeria's president at the time, were a symbol of Algeria's modernity and commitment to leaving the past behind.


    USTHB is divided into eight faculties and 53 research laboratories (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, earth sciences and geography, electronics and computer science, mechanical and chemical engineering, and civil engineering). It was the largest university in Algeria until 2013, with approximately 20,000 students.


    It has established strong networks and engaged in numerous research collaborations with western universities, particularly in France. It has a football and basketball teams that competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, as well as an agreement with the Algerian Olympic Complex to allow students to use the pool.
