Université Frères Mentouri de Constantine 1
In 1969, the University of Constantine 1, formerly known as the University of Mentouri, was founded. The full French name of the university is now Université Frères Mentouri de Constantine 1. Algeria's Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche Scientifique has officially recognized it (Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Algeria). With over 62,864 students and 2,247 administrative and teaching staff, it is a very large university.
Université Frères Mentouri de Constantine 1 is divided into six faculties: sciences and technologies, letters and languages, natural sciences, law, exact sciences, and earth sciences, as well as an Institute of Nutrition, Food and Agro-Food Technology, and Veterinary Science.
Constantine University 1 is located in Constantine, Algeria. It is the capital of the Constantine Province in northeastern Algeria, which was known in Roman times as Cirta. It was renamed Constantina in honor of Emperor Constantine the Great. Until 1962, it was the capital of the French department of Constantine. Constantine, an inland city, is about 80 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast, on the banks of the Rhumel River, which, despite its name, is more of a brook.
In 2015, Constantine was designated as the Arab Capital of Culture. Constantine is known as the "City of Bridges" because of the numerous picturesque bridges that connect the city's various hills, valleys, and ravines. It has a population of approximately 448,000 people.
