University of Salzburg
The University of Salzburg, named after its founder, Prince-Archbishop Paris Lodron, is a public university located in Salzburg municipality, Salzburg state and among the Best-Known Universities in Austria. The University of Salzburg has no campus, instead occupying parts of the Salzburg Residenz building (Toskanatrakt) and Kapitelgasse, south of Salzburg Cathedral. The university library is situated between the Kollegienkirche and the Großes Festspielhaus, with the Große Aula, or ceremonial hall, next to it.
The institution was founded in 1622, closed in 1810, and reopened in 1962. It now has over 18,000 students and 2,800 personnel, making it the largest educational institution in the state of Salzburg. Catholic Theology, Law, Cultural and Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences are the four faculties that make up the university.
