University of Santo Tomas (UST)
Founded in 1611, UST is Asia's oldest university. It is one of the world's largest Catholic colleges in terms of student enrollment. It is the only university that has been visited four times by three popes: once by Pope Paul VI on November 28, 1970, twice by Pope John Paul II on February 18, 1981 and January 13, 1995, and once by Pope Francis on January 18, 2015.
Our national hero, Jose Rizal, studied medicine at the University of Santo Tomas. National heroes, church martyrs, renowned scientists, national artists, well-known business tycoons and sports, notable physicians, four Philippine presidents, three vice presidents, and six Chief Justices have all graduated from UST.
In 2022, UST was rated #801-1000 among the Top Universities in the World. UST alumni consistently rank in the top ten in courses involving board and license examinations (Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Engineering, Architecture, Accountancy, and Education).
