  8. The Institute's history dates back to 1946, when the Iligan City National High School was founded (ICHS). The ICHS was renamed Lanao Technical School (LTS) by the Bureau of Vocational Education (BEV) in 1956. LTS was renamed the Northern Mindanao Institute of Technology (NMIT) by RA 4626 in 1965. This law, however, was not carried out. LTS was incorporated into the MSU System by RA 5363 on July 12, 1968.

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU), one of the Philippines' most renowned and prestigious state-universities of higher learning, is the lead agency of the Science City of Muoz's Science Community and the headquarters of the Central Luzon Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development Consortium (CLAARRDEC).

On April 12, 1907, the Central Luzon Agricultural School (CLAS) opened as a farm school where students taught the fundamentals of better farming practices, agricultural mechanics, and homemaking arts. These activities quickly grew into a model vocational-agricultural teaching and learning program, which became the organization's legacy.

On December 31, 1950, CLAS was renamed Central Luzon Agricultural College (CLAC), the first state institution in the nation to offer a four-year curriculum for preparing vocational agriculture instructors, and it became regarded as the "mother of vocational agricultural schools" in the Philippines.

By virtue of Republic Act No. 4067, CLAC was renamed Central Luzon State University on June 18, 1964. The enabling statute states that the "University shall principally provide professional and technical training in agricultural and mechanic arts, in addition to giving advanced education and supporting research in literature, philosophy, the sciences, technology, and art."

To this day, CLSU remains one of Southeast Asia's premier agricultural institutions, known for its groundbreaking research in aquatic culture (pioneer in tilapia sex reversal), ruminant, crops, orchard, and water management, living up to its vision of becoming "a world-class National Research University for science and technology in agriculture and allied fields."

Furthermore, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) - National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (NAFES) named it as National University College of Agriculture (NUCA) and National University College of Fisheries (NUCF). Likewise, classified as a CHED Center of Excellence (COE) in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Biology, Fisheries, Teacher Education, and Veterinary Medicine - the most COEs in the Central and Northern Luzon Regions.
