Vranjina
Vranjina is a town, an island, and a hill in Lake Skadar, Montenegro's Podgorica municipality. Vranjina, like the other Skadar lake islands, was a hill in the Zeta–Skadar lowlands until the first half of the 18th century.
The island is located in the northern half of the lake and was formed by a Moraa River delta. It covers 4.6 km2 and has a peak elevation of 296 meters, making it Montenegro's highest island. A bridge connects the island to the mainland in the direction of Podgorica, and a causeway connects the island to the mainland in the direction of Bar.
Vranjina Monastery is a well-known feature of the island. The monastery was destroyed by Turks in 1843, and it was turned into a fortress. In 1886, King Nikola rebuilt the monastery, however the ancient monastery's tracks have not been retained. The monastery is being repaired and rebuilt once more in 1998.
Because of its natural surroundings and unique ambiance, Vranjina village is often known as Montenegrin Venice. Fishing is a major pastime in Vranjina. There are also a couple of excellent restaurants on – or on – the island.
