WAGYUMAFIA was founded by self-taught chef expert Hisato Hamada and businessman Takafumi Horie. Originally a beef export business, the brand was founded after a series of private dinner pop-ups centered around wagyu. The duo then opened their first members-only restaurant, The WAGYUMAFIA Progressive Kaiseki, in Tokyo in 2016.
With a mission to educate consumers, restaurateur and suppliers about authentic Japanese wagyu beef, the WAGYUMAFIA brand is the platform that showcases the dedicated work of deeply-rooted Japanese wagyu farmers. far from history and tradition. Driven by a spirit of partnership, WAGYUMAFIA has embarked on a 50-city world tour, bringing knowledge and expertise into a series of exciting and renowned chef collaborations, including Azurmendi 3 Michelin stars in Spain, Soho House in London, Fortnum & Mason and Spago in Los Angeles.
The WAGYUMAFIA brand currently operates seven restaurants worldwide, with only three of its members in Tokyo along with the iconic Cutlet Sandwich store in Tokyo. The first store overseas, WAGYUMAFIA Hong Kong, opened in winter 2018.
WAGYUMAFIA continues to spread its mission of bringing authentic wagyu to the world, while introducing unique and innovative culinary experiences that defy the norm.
