Wismar
Wismar, which was strategically located, enjoyed its heyday during the Hanseatic League's existence. The Hanseatic League was an exclusive group of medieval cities that banded together to advance trade and counter threats.
The big red brick structures that are so typical of it serve as a reminder of that great commercial success story. The traveler must allow himself to be taken away by the Hansa's streets in order to understand and absorb its spirit. Its historic core is recognized as a World Heritage Site.
