Niihau is Hawaii's westernmost main island and the seventh biggest inhabited island. It covers an area of 69.5 square miles (180 km2). Wetland habitats for the Hawaiian coot, Hawaiian stilt, and Hawaiian duck are provided by several intermittent playa lakes. The Kahoolawe Island Reserve was established by the Hawaii State Legislature to restore and manage the island and its surrounding seas. Kahoolawe is now only used for native Hawaiian cultural, spiritual, and subsistence purposes.

Molokai is the fifth most populous of the eight major Hawaiian Islands archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
