  1. Lake Biao sits on the crater of a volcano in the south of the island of Bioko, not far from Moca – the well-known tourist attraction of the island. Therefore, the lake is also called by the name “lake Moca”.

The journey from Moca to lake Biao could be a bit tiring for some, but it will definitely give you a spectacular experience. During the journey, you’ll see a mixture of plants, ferns, trees, and wild animals like endemic birds or monkeys. The 3 hours of jungle journey will make you think of a documentary film, except this time you’re the one staring at it. Just remember to bring a lot of water for hydration and protein-based foods for energy.

Many believe that lake Biao should be another wonder of the world. During the day, you can see the whole view of the sky reflected on the surface of the lake. Don’t worry about getting lost or couldn’t find a place for a perfect check-in picture, because there are Local guide experts in the field that will be your partner throughout the whole trip, and they will for sure give you fun and educational pieces of knowledge of the forest and the lake.

  2. Just like lake Biao, lake Loreto is another old crater currently covered by water, and surrounded by forest that lies from ancient times. And in fact, this lake is located in the center of the volcanic island Bioko. You can get here after traveling for around forty kilometers from the south of Malabo, or ten kilometers from the west of Riaba town. You will have to travel to the Bioko island by boat. As you come close to the lake, you will see the majestic beauty of the island.

Being a crater lake, lake Loreto is approximately 1,350 meters above sea level. Therefore, the trail to the lake is a trekking adventure that many consider being the most memorable experience in Rumbo Malabo. You only have to walk for 30 - 40 minutes from the beginning place to the lake.

Once you get to lake Loreto, you will be able to witness a breathtaking view of the lake and the forest around it. In the raining season, you can’t really see anything since there will be a thick layer of frost, but at other times of the year, you can fully enjoy the view, and even combine your trip with other activities like camping or swimming.

  3. The third lake in this list will also be a crater lake that is lake Mazafim. The lake has many other names such as Crater Lago, Lago Mazafin, Lago Mazafín, Lago de Mazafim, and Lago de Mazufin, and is located in Annobón, the least visited part of an already unexplored nation.

Although very remote, Annobón is home to the stunning Lake Mazafim. The trail to visit the lake offers walking and hiking opportunities. Depending on your spirit of adventure, you can ask to be provided with a local guide. But you can always use your own adventure map and see where the road leads you to. Don’t worry about getting lost, because the trail is quite easy, and locals are extremely friendly people who are always willing to help. If ever in doubt, ask any local for guidance.

Once you fish the trail. You’ll get to see the stunning view of Lake Mazafim. You can go around, take some deep breaths and enjoy the quiet and refreshing feeling that the lake gives you. Then you will be ready to go home with a beautiful experience in a beautiful country.
