  1. The Music Box Theatre, one of the best movie theaters in Chicago, is aptly named due to its dainty, jewel-like characteristics. It was built in the neo-Georgian style, which is more akin to a dignified manor or country home than the typical theatrical style of most other Broadway playhouses, and was designed by architect Charles Howard Crane in partnership with E. George Kiehler.

There is no better theater than the Music Box, a two-screen cinema that showcases the newest indie movies and documentaries, for movie buffs who don't care for classic Hollywood blockbusters. Gorgeous, with weekly midnight screenings of cult classics and frequent director Q&As held in the main theater. The popcorn at these concession stands is also butter-topped.

The theater offers a variety of entertainment throughout the year and has 437 seats spread between the main floor and balcony level. The Music Box Theatre provides accommodations for patrons who are blind, deaf, partially sighted, and/or have hearing loss. Every performance at the theater is accompanied by an infrared assistive listening device.

  2. The Logan Theatre opened in 1915 as the Paramount Theatre, a single-screen cinema. It was acquired by the Vaselopolis family in 1922. The previous owner, Chris Vaselopolis, was born in the Theatre structure and devoted his life to preserving his family's legacy through the Theatre's illuminated screens. The Logan Theatre served as the shooting location for the Will Ferrell-starring movie Stranger than Fiction in 2006.

The newly renovated theater in Logan Square has a new sound system, screens, and projectors, but perhaps the best feature is a lobby bar and lounge that hosts activities like live comedy and movie trivia. In addition to a diverse selection of midnight screenings every weekend, you'll also find a variety of second-run studio films and independent films.

Amazing details of the Theatre's original architecture and design that had been hidden by years of plaster were made visible during the renovations. When you visit the theater, you'll be in awe of its beautifully restored stained glass arch over the entrance, its newly restored marble walls, and a decorative relief panel from its opulent 1915 interior. The box office, concession area, and lobby have been expanded and remodeled with Art Deco details reminiscent of the original décor.

  4. The first theater in the Chicagoland region with stadium seating, Landmark's Century Centre Cinema is a cutting-edge and aesthetically distinctive structure. It was designed in the Spanish Baroque style by architect Edward Eichenbaum of the firm Levy & Klein, whose work also included the Granada Theatre in Rogers Park and the Marbro Theatre in Garfield Park

It shows independent and foreign language films. One of the city's most cutting-edge and exciting theater venues is Landmark's Century Centre Cinema, which offers convenient validated parking, unhindered sightlines, Dolby Digital sound, and gourmet as well as conventional concessions. On Chicago's bustling near-north side, it is tucked into the fourth, fifth, and sixth levels of the Century Shopping Center, where it is surrounded by award-winning eateries and shopping options.

Though it's located on top of a seemingly abandoned mall, the Landmark's lineup of studio-backed indie films and obscure midnight screenings is worth the trip. The cinema is the ideal destination for the budding cinephile because the bar and snack selections can be as eccentric as the film you're watching.

  5. If you're in Chicago, the AMC River East 21 is a great place to see a movie. With the Chicago International Film Festival and a regular schedule of advance screenings, the theater has grown into a thriving downtown film destination. There is typically a good balance of blockbusters and art-house fare thanks to the availability of 21 screens, which allows for the simultaneous showing of many different titles.

The audience members are engulfed in the show's eye-catching lighting, thunderous sound, and movie-like effects as they spill off the stage. In the 20 years that it has been open, it has fulfilled its original purpose of providing access to top-notch entertainment for regular people, including stage performances, films, and concerts. The extremely roomy seating can also be a nice alternative for those of you who need more room for yourself, but you'd also draw a lot of odd or sympathetic glances from other couples.

  8. It was a Movie Palace, designed for the talkies and Vaudeville shows. The theater, newly reopened in December 2016 after extensive renovations, features first-run films on three screens. The revamped theater includes an attached restaurant and bar, Carbon Arc Bar & Board, with an impressive cocktail menu, 26 beers on tap and an extensive wine list—all of which can come with you into your movie.

The Davis Theatre is a downtown landmark and is one of only a handful of such theatre spaces still standing across the South. The acoustics are excellent, and with twelve-hundred seats, the size is perfect. It has a full-size orchestra pit, and the stage is easily seen from any seat in the house. There is a feeling of intimacy long since sacrificed in modern theatre design.

The theatre hosts amateur and professional musicals, dramatic productions, chamber music groups, symphony orchestras, dance groups, ballets and instrumental performances of all types. Moreover, the theatre is available to civic, cultural and educational institutions to merge these programs with other activities to expand and enrich the life of the community.

Countless numbers of patrons not only enjoyed movies and shows in the palace, but many couples enjoyed their first date, first kiss or marriage proposal here. There were many weddings held on the stage of The Davis!
